Health and Social Services – ORCCA, Rest Haven Foundation

The Saanich Peninsula Community Foundation believes that everyone in our community has a right to personal wellness. Through access to modern treatment facilities and affordable services (not covered by MSP), our neighbours can feel their best, regardless of their income or insurance coverage. Our process of selecting worthy health and social service providers for grants involves careful consideration of their impact on the health of Saanich Peninsula residents.

In 2014 and again in 2016, SPCF provided funds to Oral Care for Children and Adolescents (ORCCA). ORCCA is a not-for- profit charitable organization working to provide dental care to children and adolescents with low family income and no dental insurance. With the help of SPF, ORCCA was able to open its first clinic in 2015, where they perform dental procedures and educate our community’s youth about dental care and safe practices.

The Rest Haven Foundation also received an SPCF grant in 2015, which paid for an automated vital sign monitor. Having these units for Rest Haven Lodge residents in very sensitive medical situations saves the nurses time, provides far more detailed diagnostics, and allows for quicker response to emergency situations.

Both ORCCA and the Rest Haven Foundation have strong volunteer components, as do most of our grant recipients. We are an organization run by volunteers, so we see that the act of contributing to the health of our community is fulfilling and rewarding in itself.

We are continually in search of health and social service related organizations who can make a big impact on the health and wellness of Saanich Peninsula residents with the help of a small grant. If you are a part of what makes ours a healthy and vibrant community, we encourage you to apply for support.
